What's New in MathFacts in a Flash 3.0

The primary focus for the MathFacts in a Flash™ Renaissance Place™ 3.0 version is to address customer requests for more content and reporting changes.

Content
Based on feedback from teachers and staff, a lot of time was spent expanding the content levels on which students work.

Alternate Format
In order to give students further practice on basic math facts, alternate format levels have been introduced in MathFacts in a Flash 3.0. These levels appear directly before review levels for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Each of the alternate-format level names start with Alternate Forms so they can be easily distinguished from a standard level. In an alternate format, the number in an equation that a student needs to fill in will vary. A standard level shows all of the problems in this format: 1 + 6 =___. In alternate format levels, students will see___+ 6 = 7 or 1 +___= 7, in addition to 1 + 6 =___.

Standard format
Students will master the basic math facts in the standard format initially, and then practice recognizing the missing number in the new alternate formats to accelerate their computational fluency further.

Alternate formats

Scope and Sequence
In addition to the alternate format levels, new levels were added for percentages. Multiplication and division levels were grouped to be similar to the addition and subtractions levels and only include two numbers. Multiplication and division by 11 and 12 were split off into their own levels so teachers who do not require multiplication and division by 11 and 12 can remove these levels.

Note: Levels highlighted in yellow are new levels for the MathFacts in a Flash 3.0 release.

Practice Sessions
In order to give students more practice and help them master math facts more quickly, Practices in MathFacts in a Flash 3.0 have been updated to include a minimum of 20 questions. Students will still continue to see any problems they missed in their last test and any problems that are considered to be difficult for that level. If the combination of missed and difficult problems does not equal 20 or more problems, MathFacts in a Flash 3.0 will randomly pull additional problems until the student has practiced 20 problems.

Tests have not changed and will continue to be 40 problems in length.

Reports
All of the MathFacts in a Flash reports were reviewed and updated to a format that is consistent across all Renaissance Place application reports.

Student Record Report
A new Student Record Report has been added to give you a report that shows student progress on their current level, as well as all levels the student has mastered. This report includes the number of school days to master a level, the number of practices and tests taken for the level, the lowest actual time and lowest time goal for the level and if a student has mastered multiple time goals for the level.

Class Progress Report
The Class Progress Report was updated to include a School Days Since Last Session calculation.

TOPS Report
The TOPS Report was updated to use the new report format.

Renaissance Place changes
In order to give all of the applications in Renaissance Place a more consistent look and feel, changes have been made to the header and layout of the pages. Note that all header navigation links are now on the second row and that the page titles, such as Assignment Book, are on the page rather than left-justified in the header.
