 Get Utility is a software application that allows you to transfer text from a Macintosh or a PC running Windows to a NEO, AlphaSmart 3000, or earlier AlphaSmart models. If your computer has built-in IrDA infrared wireless capability (or with the addition of an optional AlphaSmart Infrared Wireless Pod), Get Utility can send files to NEO or AlphaSmart 3000 IR models without a cable. The program transfers the current contents of the Mac or PC Clipboard to a designated file on the AlphaSmart device. (The Clipboard is a memory buffer that allows you to transfer information between different programs. Most Mac OS and Windows applications support copying to the Clipboard).
Like AlphaSmart devices, the software is simple and user-friendly. Once it's installed on your computer, you can use it in any or all of the following ways:
 Ways to use Get Utility
- Download a quiz or homework assignment to your AlphaSmart
- Download text from the web (to your AlphaSmart) when doing a research project, and take it with you
- Download story starters, spelling tests or to-do lists to your AlphaSmart
- Start a research paper at school, download it to your NEO or AlphaSmart 3000, and take it home to finish
- Use it to go between Mac and PCs — once you've sent data to an AlphaSmart device, it can be uploaded to a Macintosh or PC using One-Key Send
