Using Accelerated Math
with Response to Intervention

Accelerated Math fits perfectly into a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework because it provides the personalized practice and progress monitoring students and educators need to benefit from the key ideals of RTI:

  • Evidence-based programs to support high-quality instruction
  • Targeted interventions to help struggling students catch up to their peers
  • Progress monitoring information to drive data-driven decision making
  • Support—including family involvement—to make sure every student
    experiences success

RTI Pyramid

Use at Tier 1: Accelerated Math facilitates differentiation every day with every student in the general education classroom. After initially being placed in an appropriate grade-level library in Accelerated Math, students receive subsequent assignments based on their performance on the previous assignment. The Status of the Class Report helps teachers pinpoint specific objectives each student is struggling with and group students by skills needing further instruction. TOPS reports show problems answered incorrectly, so students are able to rework and discuss their missteps with a teacher. For excelling students, the system can provide additional coursework at advanced levels.

Use at Tiers 2 and 3: Because Accelerated Math is self-paced, if a student has trouble with a particular math objective, the system allows for individualized progress monitoring. The software can generate multiple alternate forms of assignments and tests at the same level within a single objective so growth can be closely monitored. Because students cannot move further into Accelerated Math until they have achieved mastery on the objective they are currently working with, the tool ensures that all students receive the level of intervention they require. Accelerated Math activities are scored immediately, so daily, weekly—even hourly—progress monitoring is possible.
