ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL CRITERIA
To certify for Master School, you must maintain the following criteria throughout the school for any 18-week period.
- Obtain Model School status.
- Implement Accelerated Reader best classroom practices as identified by the techniques listed on the .
- Achieve 100% of the goal for total points earned for the class.
- Maintain no more than 15% of students “at risk” (low average percent correct or low points). ()
- Classes of established readers (3rd grade and up) maintain at least 80% of points earned from independent reading practice—rather than “read to” or “read with” practice.
- Classes of established readers, set and monitor goals.
- For emergent readers, work toward achieving these goals by the end of the school year: Kindergarten—at least 10% of students certified as Independent Readers. Grade 1—at least 90% of students certified as Independent Readers.
- Successful completion of one of the following:
- AR Advanced Topics
- Remote Guided Implementation
- One-hour Renaissance Instructor-led Training
- National Renaissance Conference Attendance
- Pre-approved training
- Renaissance Training Symposium Attendance
- Established readers as a group show improvement in their Percentile Rank and Normal Curve Equivalent between pre- and post-tests of STAR Reading or other standardized test taken at least 18 weeks apart.
- Emergent readers as a group show improvement in their Scaled Score between pre- and post-tests of STAR Early Literacy or other standardized test taken at least 18 weeks apart.

30-Minute Criteria (in addition to the above)
- Elementary and Middle School — achieve 30 minutes of reading practice daily for 18 weeks.
- Maintain no more than 20% of students averaging less than 90% correct on Reading Practice Quizzes.
60-Minute Criteria (in addition to the above)
- 60 minutes (elementary school) or 45 minutes (middle school) of reading practice daily for 18 weeks.
- Maintain no more than 20% of students averaging less than 85% correct on Reading Practice Quizzes.
