Montana Educator's Class
Unstoppable in Mastering Objectives
in Accelerated Math
|
Certified educator Juli
McNeil sent in her paperwork in February for
recertification for Math Master Classroom.
The 34 fifth graders at Blue Creek
Elementary in Billings, Montana, would have
needed 2,448 total objectives mastered in
Accelerated Math to be recertified.
McNeil submitted a Diagnostic Report through
the middle of January that showed her class
had mastered a whopping 4,224 objectives.
When asked for an update on the number of
objectives mastered as of late March, McNeil
reported they had since completed a total of
6,766 objectives, and show no signs of
slowing down yet.
She has students working on the fifth-
through seventh-grade libraries.
“One boy in my class has completed the
fifth, sixth, and only has 100 objectives
left in the seventh-grade library,” McNeill
said. “This is his first year doing
Accelerated Math. He loves it. One week he
mastered 45 objectives. He took it home
every night and stayed in at recess every
chance he could to work on Accelerated
Math.”
McNeil also reported that her class scored
79 Percentile Ranks according to their
pre-test STAR Math scores at the beginning
of the year. A recent post-test on STAR Math
showed her class at 93 Percentile Ranks.
So how does McNeil get her fifth-graders
inspired?
