Announcement About 2007–2008 Certification
Criteria
As you know, this school year we’ve allowed schools to submit for
Certification using either the “old” or the “new” criteria. This was done to
allow for a smooth transition into using the new 30-minute criteria for the
2007-2008 school year.
We have heard both praise and concern for making the decision to require 30
minutes at 90% correct on AR quizzes. Because both sets of criteria are proven
through research to raise reading growth, we have decided to continue to allow
educators the flexibility, for their situation, to choose to certify under
either the 30-minute criteria or 60-minute criteria.
Please see the outlined criteria below for the 30-minute and 60-minute criteria
for the 2007-2008 school year.
Note: For 2007–2008, the median of points earned for 60-minutes of reading practice has been
increased from 80% to 100%.
